In 1980 Philip returned to the Isle of Man with his wife Margaret and their daughter Helen.
Margaret had undergone fairly major surgery on a severely damaged left hip and it was felt that
whilst Margaret was undertaking a fairly long period of recovery the family would enjoy much
better support from their close family and friends at home.
Philip and Margaret Summerscales continued to commute to England for their singing engagements
and Philip was also developing a business reputation as co-producer of Bugsy Malone the Stage Show
(1983) and sponsorship coordinator for Kent Opera, Opera North and the Apollo Leisure Group.
It was this reputation that, in September 1986, led to him being invited to become the founder
Managing Director and a shareholder in the newly formed Isle of Man Advertising & P R Ltd. From
a fledgling start with no clients the company prospered through its first 15 years and in July 2001
Philip's daughter Helen Summerscales was appointed Managing Director of the company and under her
leadership it has shown continued growth to become probably the largest agency on the Isle of Man,
employing around 15 staff. Philip is now semi-retired from the business but continues his association
with the company as Chairman, and through his membership of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations.
This new found freedom has allowed him to spend more time to work on his music and his golf! He now
organises and performs a limited number of concerts on the Isle of Man to raise funds for local charities.
To celebrate the birth of his grandson Harvey in 2005, Philip Summerscales recorded his recital
CD entitled "Life begins at..."
